Action for Mental Health–Kenya (AMH-K) is a grassroots, disability-led organization based in Kisumu City and working across Siaya and Kisumu Counties in Western Kenya. We are founded, governed, and led by persons living with psychosocial disabilities and other mental health conditions. Our organization was born from lived experience from individuals, particularly marginalized women and widows, who faced stigma, exclusion, and barriers to care linked to harmful socio-cultural beliefs and practices. Today, AMH-K stands as a collective voice advocating for dignity, equality, and full inclusion of persons living with mental health conditions.
A society that actively values, respects, and upholds the rights of people living with mental illness.
To lead inclusive advocacy, awareness, and system strengthening initiatives that promote mental health rights and equitable access to quality health services for all.
1. Respect: We honor the dignity and worth of every individual.
2. Equality: We strive for fairness and justice in all our endeavors.
3. Empowerment: We empower individuals to realize their full potential.
4. Inclusion: We embrace inclusivity at all levels without discrimination with regards to ethnicity, religion, sex, or any other basis.
5. Accountability: We uphold transparency and responsibility in our actions.
6. Partnerships: We collaborate with stakeholders to achieve common goals.
AMH-K is not just an organization serving persons with mental health conditions, it is an organization of and led by them.
Our members include individuals living with psychosocial disabilities, persons in recovery, caregivers, and community allies.
Leadership structures intentionally prioritize representation of persons with lived experience in decision-making, programme design, and advocacy engagement.
